The purpose of the article is to draw attention to the issue of efficacy of the anti-racist communication strategies used to publicize and criticize cases of the racist hate speech in the Polish public discourse. I argue that the actions being currently undertaken within this field – defined as the anti-racist discourse – are often ineffective. The empirical basis for considerations presented in the article is provided by a discourse analysis focusing on the media dispute evoked by the parliamentary statement made by deputy Artur Górski (Law and Justice) on October 5, 2008. The context for reflection on the Polish anti-racist discourse and the controversies over the validity of the racist hate speech is of double nature. On one hand, it is shaped by the American debates on political correctness carried out in the eighties and nineties of the 20th century. On the other, the context comprises transformations of the racist and anti-racist discourse in the Western Europe as well as the rhetoric of the European populist right that has been developing since the seventies of the last century. In the article, I point at some of the causes of inefficacy of the anti-racist discourse and also try to outline certain general directives that can offer a departure point for reasonable modification of the anti-racist communication strategies in the future. The article presents the postcards as a source of knowledge about the social reality for a sociologist. The first part contains a description of postcards, the discussion of visual studies and the theoretical justification of postcards’ status as a data. The analyzed object consists of two parties: the iconic recto and verbal verso. What we see on the postcards and then read – explains the second part of the article in which I empirically examine the usefulness of this type of sources, analyzing the photographic presentation of the city on one hand, and contents appearing on greeting postcards on the other. This research paper presents initial findings from a long-term research project which aims to depict how people use Internet in their everyday life. One of the processes which eventually results in becoming an Internet user is adaptation to online communication environment. Research strategy used in this project combines elements of biographic approach with analytic procedures of Grounded Theory Methodology. Narrative interviews, semi-structured interviews and field notes from observations were the basic empirical material used for analysis. This article focuses on women’s motivation to enter politics (5th Term of RP Parliament’s Office). Presented conclusions are part of the study on gender’s influence on performing the role of politician. The purpose of this article is to confront what women say with the theories concerning the common objectives in the selfishly motivated world. Firstly I describe Public Choice Theory.Then I comment on the research method and population characteristics, moreover I discuss the course of the study. The main part of this article presents motives of entering politics that were revealed by women-politicians. Women politicians declared different motives of entering into politics. I divided all revealed reasons into seven parts. The most frequently mentioned one was the desire to continue the career in Local Government at the central level. The second one was named by me willingness to help. There were also women that entered politics by other reasons, such as: the suggestion of significant others, challenge, et cetera.
